New Website for Searching Private and Independent Schools

September 20, 2010

Westford, MA, September 20, 2010 – Students, parents and school guidance counselors can use a variety of reference books to gather data on private schools. Now, they can also go online for a single source of in–depth and comparative information about private and independent schools nationwide.

The new site,, is being launched by Alloy Education, a leading provider of targeted media and promotional programs for education clients.

The online database is the most comprehensive of its kind, based on information compiled in the Porter Sargent Handbook Series' Handbook of Private Schools.

First published in 1915, the Handbook is a printed database of annually updated private school facts. Now online, the site makes it easier than ever for users to match students to a school, whether it's preschool for a toddler or an elite secondary school.

"We are excited to introduce this valuable and convenient new resource for anyone interested in private school education," said Alloy Education's Vice President of Print, Meghan Dalesandro. "The Handbook data information is like no other forum allowing parents, advisors and educators to readily compare the most independently compiled data and make the most appropriate choices for students."

With just over 1,700 primary and secondary schools available, the detailed search function allows users to narrow their search by location, grades offered, size of enrollment, genders or even residential boarding programs. Featured schools supplement their basic listing with photos, a detailed description and an in–depth profile covering administration and faculty credentials, academic and athletic offerings, tuition and financial aid, test scores, graduate placements and more.

Porter Sargent Handbooks also publishes the Guide to Summer Camps and Summer Schools, The Directory for Exceptional Children and Schools Abroad of Interest to Americans. In 2007, Porter Sargent Handbooks joined forces with Alloy Education via Wintergreen Orchard House, a major database compiler and provider, specializing in the college, graduate and scholarship fields.
